(G. age 58)
Despite the fact that for many years I was a lecturer in an art school, I suffered from severe stage fright. It reached the point that I refused any speaking engagements. I found that as a person I began to shrink. Instead of doing something that I did well and that I really enjoyed, that is speaking with people, I began to withdraw into myself. I had tried a number of different methods to overcome my anxiety, some helped periodically, and for shorter periods of time. I than began the coaching process with a personal coach as part of the coaching process, there was a possibility to have a preparatory talk within 24 hours of an important meeting or in my case lecture. The preparatory talk placed the emphasis on who I wanted to be, and what value I wanted to bring to the audience. I found that not only did I overcome my anxiety and my fear, but actually enjoyed the process and the experience of talking before an audience. Rather than shrinking, I feel that I have begun to expand, develop and enjoy making my ideas known.
(B. age 44)
In the beginning I found it hard to have a conversation for an hour over the phone, but then I got used to it and didn’t feel the time going by. The comfort of having the conversation at home over the phone became a big advantage. I discovered the greatness of coaching thanks to your limitless capacity for listening; your ability to go into the finest details and to bring them to my attention, in the most pleasant atmosphere and positive attitude possible. Through the coaching process I created in my life a feeling of easiness, self acceptance and an acknowledgment of all my achievements up to now. The result: a feeling of satisfaction, contentment, motivation to continue and invest in relationships with my children, my husband, friends, work and a drive to invest in professional advancement. What enabled me to achieve these results is a new self awareness, seeing myself from a different more positive point of view which made self acceptance possible for me. |
